Start with a product you can deliver
A useful first digital product solves a specific problem for a specific buyer. An educator might package a focused course or workbook; a designer might sell reusable templates; an author might sell an ebook. Choose something you own the rights to distribute and can explain in one sentence.
Before choosing a platform, define the file format, prerequisites, intended use, update policy, and what the buyer will not receive. If the offer includes source code or a client-facing license, map the exact modification, commercial-use, and redistribution rights you need. A seller checkbox is not proof that conflicting platform terms give way to your license.
- Name the buyer and the result the product helps them achieve.
- Write down the delivered files and any required software.
- Review intellectual-property and platform-license fit before payment.
Prepare and test the download
Export final files with clear names. Include a short start guide that tells buyers how to open and use them. If the product has multiple versions or dependencies, make that explicit. Open the exact delivery copy yourself, including on a second device when practical.
Keep a versioned master and a record of changes. A later upload should not make it impossible to explain what an earlier buyer received. Make sure screenshots and product-page claims match the actual file.
Choose a storefront and payment route
Payhip provides hosted product pages and digital-download delivery, along with options for courses and other product formats. That makes it one possible starting point for a simple download. It is not automatically the right fit for every product or license.
Confirm the payment processors available to your own business and country, complete any account verification, and inspect the buyer-facing checkout. A public product page cannot prove that your seller account can receive and withdraw funds. If you are building a client store, use the client's own account and keep your service invoice distinct from the client's store revenue.
- Check seller and buyer terms against your intended license.
- Confirm payment and payout eligibility in your account.
- Compare with another platform if your rights, taxes, or support needs differ.
Calculate the real cost
Payhip currently lists a free plan at $0 per month plus a 5% Payhip transaction fee, Plus at $29 per month plus 2%, and Pro at $99 per month with no Payhip transaction fee. PayPal or Stripe processing fees still apply. On a hypothetical $20 sale on the free plan, Payhip's 5% is $1 before processor charges, refunds, or tax. Check the current Payhip pricing page before making a plan decision.
A paid plan is not automatically cheaper: compare the monthly subscription with the fee savings at your expected sales volume. Record gross sales, platform and processor charges, refunds, and the net amount you actually receive.
Show the buyer terms before payment
A buyer should be able to understand the price, file format, license, refund position, and support route before paying. Use the platform's supported checkout disclosures and retain the terms version associated with each order. For commercial software or unusual redistribution rights, seek written platform guidance where published terms appear to conflict.
Test the delivery path using a permitted test mode or a real order when appropriate. Verify the download link, delivered file, receipt, and support contact. Do not claim that a checkout works because a public page loads.
Launch small and improve from real questions
Publish one accurate product page, invite a small relevant audience, and answer the first support questions yourself. Update the product guide when the same issue recurs. Track completed orders and refunds before optimizing page views. A useful educational article or sample can help buyers assess fit without pressure.
If Payhip fits your product and account after those checks, review its official information alongside other options. If you need a different licensing model, payment setup, or client support arrangement, compare alternatives on those requirements rather than choosing by a headline fee alone.
